Henan Chuangwit tension compensation devices maintain constant mechanical tension in railway overhead contact systems (OCS) as temperature and load conditions change. By automatically compensating wire length variations, they keep contact wire sag within tolerance, preserve pantograph contact quality, and extend the service life of the catenary and its components.

Our range covers the three established compensation principles — ratchet tensioners with counterweights, pulley-block systems (1:2, 1:3 and 1:4 ratios) and maintenance-free spring compensators — together with the complete set of anchoring fittings required to install them: anchor arms, tension rods, rod bases, guide and fixed pulleys, tunnel limit frames, and connecting rods and connectors. As automatic tensioning devices, they are the direct equivalent of the tension-wheel and counterweight assemblies used on European and international overhead contact lines.

All devices are designed and manufactured to the TB/T 2075 series standards and are in service across China's mainline high-speed and conventional networks, as well as urban metro lines. Selection Guide

Ratchet tensioner (13-1H). The standard solution for mainline OCS. A ratchet wheel and counterweight stack keep tension constant over a wide temperature range with large compensating travel. Choose this type for open-ballast mainline and high-speed sections (up to 200 km/h) where the anchor location can accommodate the counterweight.

Compensation pulley block (12-1H). Used together with counterweights when the rope direction must be changed or the effective travel multiplied. Available in 1:2, 1:3 and 1:4 transmission ratios — the higher the ratio, the shorter the counterweight travel required, at the cost of a heavier counterweight stack. Commonly combined with 23-4 guide pulleys and 23-5 fixed pulleys in tunnel anchoring systems.

Spring compensator (17-4S). A maintenance-free alternative where there is no room for counterweight travel — short anchor sections, tunnels and metro installations. No ropes, pulleys or weights to maintain; ideal for urban DC systems and lightly maintained lines.

Tunnel anchoring fittings (23 series). In tunnels, compensation is built from 23-1 heavy-duty anchor arms, 23-2 rod anchor bases, 23-3 adjustable tension rod assemblies and 23-6 limit frames that restrain the counterweight stack. Specify them as a set; all items share mounting dimensions within the TB/T 2075.23 series.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does a tension compensation device do in an overhead contact system?

It keeps the mechanical tension of the contact wire and messenger wire essentially constant as temperature changes the wire length. Without compensation, tension rises in summer and drops in winter, causing excessive sag, poor pantograph interaction and accelerated wear.

Ratchet, pulley or spring compensation: which should I choose?

Choose ratchet tensioners for mainline sections with space for counterweights; pulley blocks when rope direction changes or travel must be multiplied; spring compensators for tunnels, short anchors and metro lines where counterweight travel is unavailable and maintenance access is limited.

What information do you need to quote a compensation assembly?

Line speed and system voltage (e.g. 25 kV AC / 1.5 kV DC), nominal tension in kN, required compensating travel, anchor type (tunnel or outdoor), desired pulley ratio if any, and quantity. Datasheets are available for all standard models.

Can you manufacture to project-specific drawings?

Yes. Besides the TB/T 2075 series range, we produce compensation fittings to customer drawings and can adapt mounting dimensions to existing infrastructure.

What is the lead time?

Standard models are typically ex-works in 2–4 weeks; project-specific sets are confirmed per order.
