Neutral Section Insulator

Neutral section insulators for phase separation in 25kV AC railway catenary systems, TB/T 3037 compliant.

Neutral section insulators (also called phase separation insulators) create a short, deliberately dead stretch of overhead contact wire at the boundary between two electrically separate supplies - typically where the phase sequence changes on a 25 kV AC mainline, or where adjacent traction power sections meet. Trains coast through with the main circuit breaker open, so the assembly has one job: let the pantograph cross at line speed without arcing, without hard spots, and without measurably increasing contact wire wear.

The Henan Chuangwit XFXP-1.8T series is designed and manufactured to TB/T 3037 "Neutral section insulators for electrified railway contact networks" and covers three design generations - the classic XFXP-1.8T-C, the 2019 revision and the current 2021 version. All share a proven layout: a lightweight composite insulating runner with smooth stainless-steel transition ramps at both ends, giving the pantograph a continuous sliding surface across the whole assembly. Units are rated 27.5 kV (25 kV system nominal) and suit lines up to 160 km/h, designed in accordance with TB/T 3036-2016.

Product Groups

  • XFXP-1.8T-C (Classic) - the long-established, field-proven structure with low maintenance cost; the economical choice for conventional and mixed-traffic lines.
  • XFXP-1.8T-2019 - a refined generation already in batch service on multiple railways, with mature and stable long-term running behaviour.
  • XFXP-1.8T-2021 - the current generation with the latest runner and insulation refinements; dependable insulation with convenient installation and maintenance.

Selection Guide

By line speed and pantograph. All three versions suit lines up to 160 km/h. Confirm the neutral section length, approach geometry and the pantograph types operating through the section - the ramps must match the pantograph entry angle so the carbon strip lifts and lands smoothly.

By service history. For renewals on lines that already run the classic type, like-for-like replacement minimises re-design and spares holding. New build and major upgrades usually specify the 2019 or 2021 generation for the latest insulation materials and running surface quality.

By installation and maintenance. Assemblies are bolted into the contact wire run with specified stagger and height; periodic inspection focuses on the runner surface, ramp condition and fastener torque. All versions are designed for straightforward on-site replacement.
