The 14A/14B spring compensation device keeps overhead contact system wire tension constant at anchor sections without the counterweights and ropes of wheel-type systems. Two constructions are available: the volute (scroll) spring type and the column spring type.
The volute type is widely used in low-clearance tunnels where ratchet or pulley anchorages cannot be installed, in urban sections and stations with appearance requirements, and in constant-tension power supply systems for power plants and mines. Manufactured to TB/T 2075.14-2024, Fittings for overhead contact system of electrification railway — Part 14: Spring compensation devices, the devices offer a simple structure with minimal maintenance.
With no compensation rope, pulleys or weights, there is nothing to re-lubricate or re-tension; the sealed spring unit holds its force output over long service, and inspection is visual. Tension accuracy keeps sag stable and pantograph contact quality high.
Henan Chuangwit Railway Equipment Co., Ltd. supplies both spring types under its CRCC-certified production line, with type selection against clearance, tension and travel requirements for each anchor section.
Frequently Asked Questions
What types of spring compensation device are available?
Volute (scroll) spring and column spring types. The volute type suits low-clearance tunnels and appearance-sensitive urban areas; the column type covers general anchor sections.
Where are spring compensation devices preferred?
Where counterweights cannot be installed: low-clearance tunnels, stations and urban lines with landscape requirements, and constant-tension power supply systems in power plants and mines.
How much maintenance do they need?
Very little — there are no ropes, pulleys or weights to maintain. The sealed spring unit is designed for long maintenance-free service.
